Taye Diggs

Taye Diggs (born January 2, 1972) is an African-American actor. He hails from Brooklyn, New York and was raised in Rochester, New York. He is the oldest of five children; he has two brothers and two sisters. Diggs married Broadway star Idina Menzel on January 11, 2003.

Diggs received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in musical theater from Syracuse University. Diggs' debut was in the ensemble cast of the five-time Tony Award-winning musical Carousel. In 1996, he got his big break, originating the role of the nasty landlord Benny in Jonathan Larson's Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning Rent. He then moved from stage to television, with a role on Guiding Light, and in 1998 he made his film debut in How Stella Got Her Groove Back. The following year he accepted roles as a tantric sex god in Doug Liman's Go. Audiences could next see him as an AWOL groom in the coming-of-age drama The Wood. Malcolm D. Lee's The Best Man featured Diggs as the titular best man suffering from his own pre-wedding jitters. He also starred in the remake of William Castle's The House on Haunted Hill. Currently, Diggs portrays an attorney on the UPN series Kevin Hill and can next be seen in the movie adaptation of the musical Rent.
