Tao-Klarjeti
In Georgian history, Tao-Klarjeti is the term conventionally used to describe the area in what is now the northeastern Turkey (particularly its Artvin province), which includes the historic Georgian provinces of Tao, Klarjeti, Shavsheti (?av?at), Kola (Kogh), Artaani (Artahan), Erusheti and also several lesser Georgian-Armenian marchlands. In the 9th-11th centuries, the region existed as a separate monarchy under the Bagrationi dynasty and played a crucial role in the unification of various Georgian lands into a single feudal state. A scattering of monuments of the medieval Georgian architecture makes the region a tourist attraction.
