Tanzanian elections, 2005
Tanzania will hold presidential and parliamentary elections on 30 October 2005. These polls will be the third since the country returned to multiparty rule in 1992. They are also significant in that the incumbent President Benjamin Mkapa, who has served two consecutive terms, will step down in accordance with the constitution. Elections will also be held for the Presidency of Zanzibar and its House of Representatives.
