Tanquetazo

El tanquetazo (Spanish for "the tank attack") refers to the failed coup attempt against the Popular Unity government of Socialist president Salvador Allende in Chile on June 29 1973. It is referred to as the "tanquetazo" because the rebelling officers primarily used tanks. It was successfully put down by loyal Constitutionalist soldiers led by Army Commander-in-Chief Carlos Prats.
