Tameside


 
 

Tameside is a metropolitan borough in Greater Manchester in North West England. It lies 7 miles east of Manchester and consists of the nine towns of Ashton-under-Lyne (where the council is based), Audenshaw, Denton, Droylsden, Dukinfield, Hyde, Longdendale, Mossley and Stalybridge which were brought together under a single council in 1974.

It borders onto the county of Derbyshire to the east, and the metropolitan boroughs of Oldham, Stockport and Manchester. It is named after the River Tame, which runs through it.
