Syosset is a hamlet (and a census-designated place) located in Nassau County, New York, within the Town of Oyster Bay. As of the 2000 census, the hamlet had a total population of 18,544.
Demographics
As of the census{{GR|2}} of 2000, there are 18,544 people, 6,281 households, and 5,307 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 1,434.8/km² (3,719.7/mi²). There are 6,354 housing units at an average density of 491.6/km² (1,274.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 85.26% White, 0.50% African American, 0.04% Native American, 12.66% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.56% from other races, and 0.98% from two or more races. 2.92% are Hispanic or Latino of any race. Syosset is known for a large Jewish population.

The average household size is 2.92 and the average family size is 3.21.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $90,929, and the median income for a family is $99,704. Males have a median income of $68,255 versus $44,229 for females. Out of the total population, 2.4% of those under the age of 18 and 4.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
