Sylva, North Carolina

Sylva is an incorporated town located in the Sylva township of central Jackson County, in the Great Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina.http://www.wnc.us As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,435. It is the county seat{{GR|6}}, having taken over from nearby Webster in 1913.

Demographics

As of the census{{GR|2}} of 2000, there are 2,435 people, 1,137 households, and 608 families residing in the town. The population density is 292.9/km² (759.7/mi²). There are 1,283 housing units at an average density of 154.3/km² (400.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 89.16% White, 4.68% African American, 1.60% Native American, 1.31% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.82% from other races, and 2.42% from two or more races. 2.51% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The average household size is 2.04 and the average family size is 2.74.
