However, former Guns N' Roses' lead guitarist, Slash, has reportedly been quoted as having a disdain for the song due to its roots as simply a technical exercise for him to warm-up with before a recording session or a performance the band was getting ready for. The lyrics were written by Axl Rose as a poem.
