Sweatbox


 
 

Sweatbox is a Disney animators' term for the screening room where directors and producers approve or reject animated scenes in pencil test form, as well as for this process itself, also sometimes called sweatboxing. It originates from the beginning of Walt Disney Animation, where those tests where shown to Walt Disney on a Moviola in a non-ventilated, small room. The animators, awaiting a verdict, perspired both because of the climate and fearing a possible negative reaction. When the animation studio relocated to Burbank and much more comfortable screening rooms were installed, the name still stuck.
