Survivor (band)
Survivor is a rock band formed in 1978 by Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan. Jim Peterik was the former lead vocalist in the band Ides of March, and co-wrote the Sammy Hagar song "Heavy Metal". Dave Bickler, Gary Smith and Dennis Johnson were temporary members, until they were replaced by Stephan Ellis and Marc Droubay.

The group are very popular in their native land, the United States, where they have charted a dozen top 20 hit singles.

They are best known for their hit "Eye of the Tiger", which became the theme song for the motion picture Rocky III in 1982. Sylvester Stallone asked Survivor to write that song. "Eye of the Tiger" stayed at #1 on the Billboard charts for seven weeks making it their first smash hit. It also topped the British singles charts for a total of 4 weeks.

In 1983, Dave Bickler resigned from the band because of medical problems; Jimi Jamison, former member of the band Cobra, took his place after he left.

Their songs "High On You" and "The Search Is Over" gave them more fame in 1985. They also wrote the song "Burning Heart" as the theme song to Rocky IV in 1985, which was a top 3 hit.

In 1989, Survivor disbanded.

They reformed again in 1997. Dave Bickler attempted to return to the group, but he and Jim Peterik left soon afterward. Jimi Jamison returned to assume lead vocal duties. The band continue to retain their popularity, playing regular concerts in North America.The current lineup is a mix of old members (Jamison on lead vocals, Frankie Sullivan on guitar, and drummer Marc Droubay) and new (guitarist/keyboardist Chris Grove and bassist Randy Riley).

In 2000, Jim Peterik threaten to sue CBS for using the name "Survivor" as the title of their hit reality show Survivor.

In 2004, a Starbucks television commercial for their Double Shot espresso beverage debuted. It featured Survivor following a man named Glen, singing a modifed version of "Eye of the Tiger" while he did his day-to-day tasks. This commercial has gained a number of fans, and remains quite popular even though it no longer can be seen on the air.
