In physics, the principle of superposition, is the property of certain physical quantities, that the net result at a given place and time caused by two or more phenomena is the summation of the results which would have been caused by each phenomenon individually. As a consequence, it is possible to analyze the behavior of certain physical systems by considering the behavior of each sub-element of the system separately, and then summing up the separate results to find the total result.

The principle of superposition applies to two separate classes of systems, Vector Fields and Time-Varying Signals.
