Super Bowl XXXIX

Trivia

  • For the third straight year, each team took the field en masse. In pre-recorded video segments, Andover, Massachusetts native Michael Chiklis introduced the Patriots, and Philadelphia-born Will Smith introduced the Eagles. (In Super Bowl XXXVI the Patriots were the first team to forego individual introductions)
  • Jacksonville's ALLTEL Stadium was conspicuously ill-equipped to handle the Superbowl's large crowds, playing host to a myriad of problems including extremely long lines, broken, dirty, and flooded restrooms, and overcrowding.
  • Branch's Super Bowl record 11 catches tied Cincinnati Bengals' Dan Ross in Super Bowl XVI and San Francisco 49ers' Jerry Rice in Super Bowl XXIII.
  • The Patriots' receivers mocked Terrell Owens' signature "flapping" touchdown move at several points in the game after scoring touchdowns. Many sports shows, such as Pardon the Interruption, criticized this as undignified, and noted that this egoism and petty behavior showed that the team's mentality was drastically different than their Super Bowl XXXVI appearance, when their humility was exhibitied in their unprecedented "team introduction".
  • New England has won all three of their Super Bowl titles by a margin of three points. They won Super Bowl XXXVI 20-17 over the St. Louis Rams and they won Super Bowl XXXVIII 32-29 over the Carolina Panthers.
