Sunday in the Park with George
Sunday in the Park with George is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. It is often regarded as Stephen Sondheim's most eclectic work to date, which was arguably the reason Stephen Sondheim chose to produce this musical off-Broadway rather than on Broadway, which allowed him more artistic liberty.

The first act deals with the life of the French Pointillist painter Georges Seurat as he was painting what is considered by many his masterpiece, "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte". The second act concerns Seurat's purported great-grandson, also named George and also an artist, as he struggles to find a reason to continue making art. In the final part of the musical, the old world and the new world come together and George (who at this time is a synergy of both Georges) attempts to find a middleground - a connection both to his art and the people who surround him.
