In early October 2005, USA Today and the Associated Press reported the 2006 Sugar Bowl will be played at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia due the extensive damage to the Louisiana Superdome from Hurricane Katrina. The game will also be moved to January 2nd, as the dome must already accomodate the Peach Bowl on December 30th and the last Atlanta Falcons game (versus the Carolina Panthers) on January 1st. An official announcement was expected on October 7th, the day after the media report of it.
