Stubborn Kind of Fellow
Stubborn Kind of Fellow was the first hit single for American soul music legend Marvin Gaye. Recorded and released in 1962, written by both Gaye and William "Mickey" Stevenson and produced by Stevenson with vocal backgrounds by Martha & the Vandellas and instrumental backgrounds by The Funk Brothers, the song was a gritty autobiographical R&B tune that described Gaye's moodier side. The song peaked at #46 on the Billboard pop singles chart but rose to #8 on the R&B singles chart making Gaye a rising R&B star on the cusp of stardom.
