Stresa Conference


 

The Stresa Conference (11-14 April 1935) was a meeting of French, British and Italian government representatives at Stresa in Italy. The main participants were French foreign minister Pierre Laval, British prime minister Ramsay MacDonald, and Italian leader Benito Mussolini.

The conference was held at the behest of France, which was concerned to formulate a common response to Germany's recent announcement of the building-up of its armed forces. The product of the conference was the Stresa Front, a short-lived alliance of the three countries against Hitler's Germany.
