The film stars Michael Paré, Diane Lane, Rick Moranis, Amy Madigan, E.G. Daily, and Willem Dafoe. The film was produced by Universal Pictures as their major summer release but was a box office flop (perhaps due in part to its back then unknown cast). In recent years, this movie has achieved somewhat of a cult status, partly due to its soundtrack of established artists and the fake bands that were portrayed by Diane Lane as Ellen Aim and the Attackers.
