Stony Brook is a hamlet (and census-designated place) located in the Town of Brookhaven on Long Island in Suffolk County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 13,727.

Demographics

As of the census{{GR|2}} of 2000, there are 13,727 people, 4,758 households, and 3,787 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 923.3/km² (2,390.5/mi²). There are 4,970 housing units at an average density of 334.3/km² (865.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 91.82% White, 1.23% African American, 0.04% Native American, 5.70% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 0.94% from two or more races. 2.43% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
