Stir of Echoes

Stir of Echoes is an American film which was released in 1999 and directed by David Koepp. The film is loosely based on the novel of the same name by Richard Matheson.

Tom Witzky, played by Kevin Bacon is a blue-collar utility worker living in Chicago, Illinois with his wife and son. While at a party, his sister-in-law, Lisa, hypnotizes Tom to disprove his scepticism. Lisa suggests that Tom keep his mind open, afterwhich she brings him out of the trance.

After having been hypnotized, Tom starts having visions of a local girl who had vanished some time ago. Tom learns that his son, Jake, has had contact with the ghost of the girl as well. Although Jake takes the appearances of the ghost much easier than his father.

Haunted by the images he sees, Tom starts to investigate the disappearance which brings him and his family into danger from the people who killed the girl.
