• Played the role of Jose "Joe" Peña in the 1970's Public Broadcasting Station bi-lingual situation comedy "Que Pasa U.S.A". In the credits he was listed as Rocky Echevarria.

Born (Esteban Echevarria) in Cuba in 1956, his family fled to southern Florida in 1960 when Esteban was 3 years old. Originally intending to become a musician, he turned to acting while attending at Miami-Dade Community College and then transfered to the University of Miami, where he studied theater. Moving to NYC, Bauer studied under famed acting teacher Stella Adler and appeared in off-Broadway productions.

He was given the substantial role of Manolo Ray in the movie Scarface, even though at the time he was relatively unknown as an actor. The producers of Scarface were convinced that he was right for the role based on his strong audition, as well as his authentic Cuban-American background. His powerful & seductive performance drew a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

He married actress Melanie Griffith on May 1982, the couple divorced in 1987. Bauer married Ingrid Anderson in 1989. He has two children. Alexander Bauer, born in 1985, with Griffith and another son, Dylan, by his second marriage

Other films include; Thief of Hearts (1984) with a young David Caruso, Raising Cain (1992) teaming him again with Sacrface director Brian De Palma. Primal Fear (1996) & Traffic (2000); the last two playing druglord kingpins. Also starred as the main character in the final season of CBS series Wiseguy.
