Staithes
![]() Staithes is a village in North Yorkshire, in the district of Scarborough. Formerly one of the largest and most productive fishing centres in North-East England, it is now largely a tourist destination. It is noted for its sheltered harbour, bounded by high cliffs and two long breakwaters. Besides its human residents, it has a very large population of seagulls and other birds nesting in the cliffs. Visitors frequently complain of being unable to sleep at night because of the cries of these birds. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
