Stage mother
In the United States television and movie industries, a stage mother is the term for the mother of a child actor. The mother will often drive their child to auditions, make sure they are on the set on time, etc. In some cases, the mothers have been known to be obnoxious by demanding special treatment for their sons or daughters. Calling someone a stage mother has therefore at times been used as a derogatory term for a parent who thinks that their child is better than any other children and therefore should be treated better.

Quite often the stage mother will also be their children's manager (e.g. Thora Birch).

Fathers have also been known to look after their children in this way but the large percentage of mothers looking after their children overshadows that of the number of fathers.
