St John Fisher College

John Fisher College at the University of Tasmania was established in 1963 and built by the Catholic Church and its community. The college was named after 16th century scholar John Fisher and provides accommodation for around 100 students.

In 1992 the college recieved national attention when a hazing scandal involving wizards, gremlins, golf balls, extreme drunken behaviour and sexual discrimination was aired on a current affairs program.

The student committee has just recently fought off a challenge by a section of homosexual residents and there sympathizers who attemped to gain control over the committee for their own benefit and to destroy the college's history and traditions. Luckily the 2006 committee that has been elected is a strong one which has the colleges best interests at heart and will provide the college with a strong future instead of running it into the ground.
