St. Albans School is a private school for boys, chartered by the Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation, in Washington, D.C.. It is considered one of the finest schools in the United States. Both Saint Albans School and its equivalent for girls, the National Cathedral School, excel athletically and academically. Cathedral choristers and acolytes still attend the school and its sister school on partial scholarship. Its motto is "For God and Country," and its mascot is the bulldog.

Founded in 1909 as a school for the cathedral choir boys, the school currently has approximately 500 students spread between grades 4 and 12. It is located on the grounds of the Washington National Cathedral along with the all-girls school National Cathedral School.

  • The headmaster as of 2005 is Z. Vance Wilson. Past headmasters include Jack McCune, Mark Mullin, and Charles Martin. Martin was famous for the statement, "St. Albans exists to help boys not into the kingdom of Harvard but into the kingdom of Heaven."

    The Black Rose Vaughn Keith National Education Award was created as a memorial for the school's former Latin and Classics master, a tough but brilliant teacher and sometime punk-rock god, lead singer of Judy's Fixation.

    St. Albans is known for producing some of the nation's most highly regarded journalists, including Donald Graham, Chairman of The Washington Post Company and Boisfeuillet "Bo" Jones, Publisher of The Washington Post. St. Albans has two newspapers: The Independent, which is co-ed with National Cathedral School, and The St. Albans News.
