The word squat has different meanings:

• Squatting is a term for inhabiting unused land without title, especially in a city. A person squatting is known as a squatter. In Australia, a "squatter" was also traditionally an owner of a large rural property, although the term is also understood with the former meaning.
• Squatter is the name of a board game using the Australian meaning of the term.
• A squat is a posture half-way between standing and sitting.
• A squat toilet is a type of toilet where the user squats rather than sits on a seat.
• The squat exercise is a lower-body exercise in weight training, which is also used as a lift in powerlifting.
• Squat is also the alternate name of Scott Adams' strip character Plop.
• Squat is a shipping term.
• Squats are also a race of (now defunct) 'space dwarfs' in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
• In slang, squat can mean "of little or no value", as in "this computer isn't worth squat."
