They formed in 1967, out of The VIPs and Art. The line-up changed several times, but typically was Mike Harrison (keyboards/vocals), Greg Ridley (bass/vocals), Luther (Luke) Grosvenor (guitar/vocals), Mike Kellie (drums) and Gary Wright (organ/vocals).

Another well known member in 1973 and 1974 was Mick Jones, later Foreigner. Ridley joined Humble Pie in 1969. Grosvernor played with Stealers Wheel and Mott the Hoople. Wright had a successful solo career.
