Southland Tales

Southland Tales is a 2006 motion picture, written and directed by Richard Kelly. A science-fiction thriller interweaving an ensemble cast including Dwayne Johnson, Seann William Scott (in two roles) and Sarah Michelle Gellar, the film is a portrait of Los Angeles and a comment on the military-industrial newstainment complex. It began filming on August 15, 2005, on a budget of around US$15 million.

Graphic novels

It has been confirmed that a series of six graphic novels will be released in addition to the film. They will tell the first six parts of what will be a nine part story; the film will tell the final three parts. The titles of the graphic novels are, according to the official website:

• Part Five: Memory Gospel
• Part Six: Wave Of Mutilation

It has been noticed that some of the titles of the novels are also song titles; for instance, "Memory Gospel" is also the name of a Moby song; "Wave of Mutilation" is a song by The Pixies; and "Temptation Waits" is the name of a Garbage song (which was featured on the first Buffy the Vampire Slayer soundtrack).

The first three graphic novels will be illustrated by Brett Weldele. The artist or artists for the remaining three have not yet been announced.
