Southington, Connecticut


 

Southington is a town located in Hartford County, Connecticut. It is situated about 10 miles east of Waterbury and about 20 miles southwest of Hartford. Southington includes the areas of Plantsville, Marion and Milldale, all of which have their own post offices. The town is located along five exits of Interstate 84. Southington is also known for its high school sports teams, the Southington Blue Knights.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 39,728 people, 15,083 households, and 11,282 families residing in the town. The population density is 426.2/km² (1,103.8/mi²). There are 15,557 housing units at an average density of 166.9/km² (432.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.45% White, 0.86% African American, 0.09% Native American, 1.04% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.57% from other races, and 0.98% from two or more races. 2.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The average household size is 2.59 and the average family size is 3.02.
