Solidus Snake, under the name of Solid Snake, is the chief of a terrorist group incorporating members of Dead Cell and a Russian private army, a group that took control of the Big Shell. Solidus Snake is a clone of Big Boss and therefore genetically identical to Solid Snake and Liquid Snake. Also included as one of the three of eight original zygotes that survived the Les Enfants Terribles project. Like his genetic brothers Solid and Liquid, he was born in 1972. Unlike Solid and Liquid, Solidus possesses neither recessive nor dominant genes, but instead was endowed with a masterful balance of both. The reason he looks older in appearance than his brothers is because he is undergoing advanced cellular degeneration as a result of the cloning process. In addition, he purposefully cut and dyed his hair to more closely resemble Big Boss. He is also known to the public as former President George Sears.

During the Liberian Civil War, Solidus was raising child soldiers for the war effort. During his time there he adopted a young boy he named Jack after killing the boy's true parents.

Initially it is believed he is holding a ransom for his successor's, President Johnson, safe return. Solidus' actions are directed by his hatred of The Patriots and Big Shell is the starting point of his plan to overthrow their totalitarian rule.

He sent in Revolver Ocelot to incite Liquid Snake to bring the said Shadow Moses Incident in order to reveal the existence of The Patriots to the public. As a result, he was removed from the presidential office after exposing the existence of Metal Gear REX and the Genome Army. Following his resignation his health was "scheduled" to fail him, but he went underground with the help of Revolver Ocelot.

Four years later, he planned to use the Navy's Arsenal Gear project to destroy The Patriots by launching a nuclear strike over Manhattan (and therefore crushing the economy and the basis of their regime), but found out that Ocelot was a Patriot spy all along. His adopted son (Jack) was now a field agent working under the codename of Raiden. During a fight against Raiden and Snake in which Solidus used a Harrier, Solidus lost his left eye. Later Solidus fought against Raiden on top of Federal Hall, intended to kill him so that he could drain his blood and obtain Raiden's nanomachines which carried information regarding the whereabouts of The Patriots, but ended up being killed by him.

In the game, Solidus' personal arsenal includes two Katanas, a P90 submachine gun, and a bulletproof, fireproof mechanical suit featuring much of the same technology incorporated in Metal Gear RAY. The suit possesses two prehensile robotic tentacles somewhat like Marvel Comics supervillain Doctor Octopus, which are capable of firing missiles and delivering powerful electric shocks. The suit also has an accelerator which Solidus can use to make him move so fast, the ground will be set on fire.
