Smith County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 174,706. Its county seat is Tyler6. Smith county is named for James Smith, a general during the Texas Revolution.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,459 km² (949 mi²). 2,404 km² (928 mi²) of it is land and 55 km² (21 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.22% water.
