Slot canyon

A slot canyon is a narrow canyon, formed by the wear of water rushing through sandstone. Occasionally, the only light entering the canyon is through very narrow openings at the top. Some measure only a foot or two across at the top but drop more than one hundred feet to the floor of the canyon.

In most slot canyons, the water and wind of 100–200 million years of windstorms and floods have cut the sandstone in such a way that its s can appear almost incandescent. From inside one can observe a wide array of colors as the light from above bounces back and forth across the walls.
