Sindal


 
 

Sindal is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in North Jutland County on the island of Vendsyssel-Thy at the top of the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 242 km?, and has a total population of 9,425 (2005). Its mayor is S?ren Risager, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Sindal.

Neighboring municipalities are Frederikshavn and Skagen to the east, Hirtshals to the north, Hj?rring to the west, and S?by to the south.

By January 1, 2007 Sindal municipality will cease to exist due to Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Hirtshals, Hj?rring, and L?kken-Vr? municipalities to form the new Hj?rring municipality. The new municipality will be the largest on Vendsyssel.

The town's original name was Soldalen (lit. "Sun Valley").
