Simtek was the team involved in BMW's attempt to found a works team in 1990, and although this did not happen, the chassis was sold to the Andrea Moda team for the 1992 season. Also in 1992, Mosley sold his stake in the company to Nick Wirth.

For the 1994 season, Simtek entered F1 proper, with Cosworth power, and with Roland Ratzenberger and David Brabham as drivers, and MTV as their primary sponsor. Ratzenberger's fatal accident at Imola, followed by his replacement Andrea Montermini's serious accident at the very next race just added to the teams serious, financial, issues.

For the 1995 season, Simtek contracted three drivers: Jos Verstappen, Domenico Schiattarella and Hideki Noda. Schiattarella and Noda would share their drive. The first three Grand Prix, Simtek featured XTC branding, an energy drink, but XTC wasn't going to pay, so Simtek had to look for alternative sponsoring. The 1995 Kobe Earthquake meant that Noda was no longer able to pay for his drive, and this was another financial blow and after the Monaco Grand Prix, Simtek Grand Prix went bankrupt and all assets were sold by auction. Nick Wirth transferred to Benetton, where he worked as a designer for four years.
