Born Simone Lucie-Ernestine-Marie-Bertrand de Beauvoir on January 9, 1908 in Paris, France, she studied at Sorbonne where, in 1929, she met Jean-Paul Sartre, who was studying there through elite ?cole Normale Sup?rieure (contrary to a common thought, she never studied there, but was familiar to it, through Jean-Paul Sartre and others). In 1981 she wrote La Cérémonie Des Adieux (A Farewell to Sartre), a painful account of Sartre's last years.
