  • The son of Arpachshad, and thus the grandson of Shem. In the Septuagint, however, Arpachshad's son was Cainan, making Shelah Arpachshad's grandson. Shelah's son was Eber.
  • A son of Judah, whom he would not let be Tamar's husband. (Genesis 38:5,11,14,26; 46:10; Numbers 26:20; 1 Chronicles 2:3; 4:21) He became father of Er and Laadah and the ancestor of the Shelanites.
  • Shelah is also one of several variant transliterations of Saleh.
