Sheila Hancock
Sheila Hancock (born February 22, 1933) is a British actress and comedienne.

Born in Blackgang on the Isle of Wight, she attended Dartford County Grammar School and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She has appeared in over 40 films, mostly television releases. Big-screen roles include Carry On Cleo (1964) and 3 Men and a Little Lady (1990). She made numerous appearances on Just a Minute many from the 1960s onwards, as well as guest appearances on Have I Got News For You, Doctor Who, EastEnders and others.

She was married to actor Alec Ross from 1954 until his death from cancer in 1971. They had one daughter Melanie Thaw in 1964. Hancock later remarried actor John Thaw, 9 years her junior, in 1973, who adopted Melanie, and they had their another daughter Joanna Thaw in 1974. Like Alec Ross, John Thaw also died of cancer (in 2002). Both daughters have become actresses.

Hancock is herself a survivor of breast cancer.

During her middle-aged years Hancock joined the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).
