Shatrughna, as the youngest of the four sons of Dasaratha, plays a relatively minor role in the Ramayana. Among his exploits was the killing of Lavnasura, the demon King of Mathura, who was a nephew of Ravana, the King of Lanka. Lavnasura was the son of Madhu, the pious demon-king after whom the city of Mathura is named. Madhu's wife and Lavanusara's mother was Kumbhini, a sister of Ravana. Lavnasura was the holder of the divine Trishula (Trident) of Lord Shiva.
