  • Shams Tabraiz or Shams-i Tabrizi (d. 1276), Rumi's Spiritual Guide, was responsible for initiating Moulana Rumi into Islamic mysticism. He was an Indian Muslim mystic who lived in the Punjab region of present day Pakistan. He is immortalized both by Rumi's Diwan-e Shams-e Tabriz-i poem and by his martyrdom: he was reputedly flayed alive by the government for his Sufi beliefs and statements.
  • Shams Tabraiz (d. 1356) was an Ismaili Missionary in India who preached Islam in the Sindh (present day Pakistan) and Gujarat region of India.
