The word shakers or shaker has several different uses:

- Shakers are a religious denomination, an offshoot of the Religious Society of Friends.
- There is a Native American religion, also called the Shakers, which arose in the mid-19th century.
- 'The Shakers' is the nickname of Bury Football Club in England. The club was given this name as the religious Shakers (see above) originate from the North West of England, near Bury.
- In Music, The Shakers were a successful Uruguayan rock group the name of whom is widely known in the Rio de la Plata; or the well chosen name for a Nashville, Tennessee group in the 1980s-1990s of three non-rock though pop music 'gothic acoustica' performers, headed by the etherial Rebecca Stout teamed with only an acoustic guitar and mandolin player--echoing intentionally the simplicity, emotional music, and idiosyncracy of the Shaker culture. The Stout-Shaker sound is in some ways comparable to the Cowboy Junkies.
- In vibration testing, shakers are the devices to excite the structure either for endurance testing or modal testing.
- A shaker is a slang term for a specific type of mechanical pencil which uses refillable leads of various thicknesses.
- A cocktail shaker is used to mix many alcoholic drinks.
