The above lineup, and the lineup of Serie A and the regional Serie C, had been in doubt until August 16, 2005, thanks to uncertainty regarding the finances of Torino and Messina of Serie A, Salernitana and Perugia of Serie B, and a matchfixing scandal regarding 04/05 Serie B Champions Genoa. Eventually, Torino was relegated to Serie B, and Genoa, Perugia and Salernitana to Serie C1/A, with Ascoli and Treviso automatically promoted to Serie A, and Catanzaro, Pescara and Vicenza to Serie B.
