Hello there (potential) roommate ! Thanks for reading my rooms for rent ad , I'm the lease holder ,renting a 4 bed /2 bath house in the burbs of El Sobrante and looking for a roommate to take the 2 upstairs bedrooms . I am searching for only for one roommate for both rooms and prefer a female roommate to balance out the house. It's just my preference . The rent will be 750 plus utilities which is about 50 to 70 a month ..still figuring out the numbers. Ok I had some strange responses the last round ,so I will have to make a addendum to this listing ; No one out of the country please , you need to be able to physically walk into the property management office and fill out and pay the non refundable fee of $30. for the application . no questions , so that means local only No proxies , please , if you are the person of which the name will be filled out on the application form , then you are the one that has to go and fill out the form , no if's ands or buts... No in lieu of rent... no I cannot accept a household appliance like a dryer or washing machine or something of monetary value. Rent is what is paid every month with a check from your bank . Ok so that is that ..now here's the details : .The rooms are kinda smallish (12x13) (10x11) but each room has it's own closet and there's more storage area in the sides of each room.Of course there's a separate upstairs bathroom . The downstairs has a smallish front room (17x12) and a average size kitchen that's functional enough , with a (gag) an electric stove ,can't win everything. At some point there'll be a washer and dryer ,but at the moment it's the local laundry mat . The area is quiet enough, located in a cul-de-sac . The location is near the express bus line to Orinda bart and also minutes to Kennedy Grove, short drive to San Pablo Dam , Tilden and Wildcat canyon park .It is also a great cycling route for the 3 bears and beyond. As a potential tenant , you'd have to go through the red tape of an application through Bartel's property management ,which is just a background check to make sure that your not a serial killer ,and that you can pay the rent on time , that sort of thing . Me: 43 ,not noisy , I work in the early am to early pm hours ,so someone who can respect quiet time in the later pm hours would be a plus . I would like to find someone that's searching for a home situation , that is not just a place to stay as a renter.I just moved in and the place is a little on the rough side at the moment , but I'm working on it and with time I think it would be a comfortable place to call home. Gaiman's Graveyard Book -- spooky, magical retelling of The Jungle Book in a graveyard

Yesterday, I blogged about Neil Gaiman's Graveyard Book hitting number one on the New York Times young adult list. Neil read the entire book aloud, a chapter at a time, on his book tour, and uploaded a nightly video, so that when it was done, his reading of the whole book could be viewed for free as a series of video streams. Coincidentally, I also finished listening to the HarperCollins audio edition of Neil reading The Graveyard Book yesterday, and was overwhelmed with delight at what a wonderful, magical, sweet story this is when it's all done. The Graveyard Book retells the Jungle Book, but instead of an orphan boy lost in the jungle, raised and tormented by animals, the Graveyard Book's orphan, Bod, is orphaned by a serial killer and raised in the graveyard by ghosts (thousands of years' worth -- from pre-Roman to Victorian). Like the Jungle Book, the Graveyard Book's story takes the form of a series of loosely linked scenarios describing the childhood and coming of age of the orphan boy, in which his mischief and adventures teach him about the world he lives in and what his place in it must be. It's filled with compassion, mystery, wonder, humor (lots and lots and lots of humor), mythology, and a rich, dark, velvety spookiness that makes it especially lovely when read aloud. Gaiman's reading is, of course, superb. He's part of a very small group of writers who really bring their work to life when they read it aloud (you can hear this for yourself in the videos from the tour). The spooky hurdy-gurdy music on the chapter breaks is also a nice flourish. This is fine work, from beginning to end, and the best bedtime story read-aloud material I've encountered in a long time. Gaiman's Graveyard Book video tour finishes, book hits #1 on NYTimes YA bestseller list

Last week, I wrote about Neil Gaiman's video book-tour for his new young adult novel, The Graveyard Book. Gaiman read a different chapter at each day's tour-stop, and videos of the readings were posted, in sequence, to a website, so that you could follow along and hear Gaiman (a virtuoso reader) perform the full text of this wonderful book. Seems like it worked. The Graveyard Book is now number one on the New York Times's Young Adult bestseller list. And deservedly so: Gaiman's combination of The Jungle Book's elegant and sweet structure and style with a genuinely creepy setting and situation (Bod is abandoned in the graveyard as a baby after his parents are murdered by a serial killer; he is raised by the graveyard's ghosts, who go back to pre-Roman times, and who give him an eclectic education and rescue him when he goes astray) is utterly inspired, and beautifully executed.
