Selma Diamond
Selma Diamond (August 5, 1920 - May 13, 1985) was a Canadian-born comedic actress and TV writer. Chain smoking, hoarse voiced, and tiny, she was best known for her role on Night Court.

Early in her career, she worked as a writer for Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows, and she was supposedly the inspiration for a character on The Dick Van Dyke Show.

In 1982, she appeared in My Favorite Year with a memorable small role as wardrobe mistress for King Kaiser's Comedy Calvalcade, a fictional show which clearly echoed the time and venue of her work for Sid Caesar.

During the run of Night Court she died from lung cancer. (Her character was replaced by a different female bailiff, played by Florence Halop, who likewise died from cancer before the show ended.)
