~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Sefton is a metropolitan borough on Merseyside, North West England. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ It was formed on April 1, 1974 from the former county boroughs of Bootle and Southport, along with the borough of Crosby, the urban districts of Formby and Litherland, and part of West Lancashire Rural District. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ It is named after the village and parish of Sefton, near Maghull. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The Bootle area is based around the docks and associated industries, and runs directly into Liverpool. Crosby is a residential area for Liverpool commuters, as are Formby and Maghull. Southport is a seaside resort and commuter town. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
