Second Doctor
The Second Doctor is the name given to the second incarnation of the Doctor seen on screen in the long-running BBC television science-fiction series Doctor Who. He was portrayed by the actor Patrick Troughton.
Personality
The Second Doctor had a lightweight, comical personality but also a passionate hatred of evil and a desire to help the oppressed. On occasion he also showed a darker side, being willing to manipulate his companions and others around him for the greater good (The Tomb of the Cybermen and The Evil of the Daleks). (This is a trait the Seventh Doctor would later inherit.) This led his companions (notably Jamie McCrimmon, who travelled with him the longest) to realise that his apparently bumbling exterior hid a calculating, alien character who always seemed to know far more than he let on. These traits, and his off-beat sense of humour, led to his adversaries consistently underestimating the Doctor, and inevitably led to their defeat at his hands.
