Season (sport)
In an organised sport league, a season is the portion of one year in which regulated games of the sport are in session. For example, in Major League Baseball, one season last approximately from April to September and in the National Hockey League, it is from October until June. A season can be divided up into three basic time periods: Regular season, playoff season, and offseason.
Regular season
The regular season is a term used, primarily, in North American sports. A regular season comprises a set number of games in a sport before a playoff. It is used as a form of preparation to improve the play of the team as a group and play against opponents. Depending on the league, all teams may or may not play against each other and will play for a set number of games.
