  • On June 3, 2005, Taylor was named publicly as a "person of interest" by Miami-Dade County police in regards to a Miami assault case involving firearms, and was being sought for questioning. "We need to speak to him, we don't know if he's a victim, witness or suspect," Miami-Dade police spokesman Mary Walters said. Taylor allegedly was present at, and possibly involved in, an incident on June 1, 2005 in Miami, in which bullets allegedly were fired into a stolen vehicle.
  • As of June 4, 2005, Taylor was still missing and had reportedly been sought by police for over 72-hours. Miami-Dade County police were expected to issue a warrant for his arrest.
  • The evening of June 4, various news outlets reported that Taylor was expected to be charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony, and that, unless he turned himself in to authorities, Miami-Dade police were ready prepared to label him a fugitive from justice and commence an active search to bring him into custody.
  • Also on June 4, the Redskins issued their first statement on Taylor. "We have just been made aware of a potential situation in Miami regarding Sean Taylor," team spokesman Karl Swanson said. "The representatives for Taylor are keeping us informed as to the developments. There is nothing we can add to the process at this time."
  • On June 5, 2005, ESPN and The Miami Herald both reported that Taylor, accompanied by his lawyer, surrendered to Miami-Dade police at approximately 10pm ET on June 4 at Miami's Cutler Ridge district police station, where he was transported to Miami's Turner Guilford Knight correctional facility. He was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, a felony, and misdemeanor battery. However, as of 1am ET on June 5, Miami-Dade police continued to list Taylor only as a "person of interest" and provided no official confirmation of his arrest.
  • On June 5, Miami-Dade police issued a statement indicating that Taylor had been arrested for aggravated assault with a firearm (a felony) and battery (a misdemeanor), for allegedly pointing a gun at a person over a dispute over two ATVs that Taylor claimed were stolen. Taylor then allegedly left the scene, but returned shortly and punched one person.
  • The Associated Press reported on June 5 that Taylor was held in detention at Miami's Turner Gilford Knight correctional facility and released the evening of June 4 after posting bond of $16,500. The Miami-Dade County Clerk's Office announced that Taylor would soon be officially arraigned on the charges.
  • The Washington Post reported on June 5 that Taylor's arraignment on the charges has been scheduled for June 24, 2005 in Miami. In related developments, Redskins' coach Joe Gibbs announced that he was excusing Taylor from voluntary pre-season practices and a mandatory pre-season mini-camp with the Redskins so Taylor could focus on his legal issues.
  • The Washington Times reported on June 7 that, barring an NFL suspension, Taylor's play with the Redskins in the 2005 likely will not be affected by the pending charges, since the scheduling of a trial remains flexible and a court probably will permit Taylor to schedule the trial in his off-season, which means that the case will not likely be tried until January or February 2006, at the earliest.
