Scott Raynor

Scott Raynor (born May 23, 1978) was the drummer for blink-182, until he was replaced by Travis Barker after the Dude Ranch album. He was a huge Metallica fan in his youth. He says he got into drums because his friends all wanted to start a metal band, and that they called all the 'good instruments' before Scott could choose, so he was stuck with drums.

This is what Scott himself had to say about his expulsion from blink-182 (taken from an interview conducted by www.crogalski.com):

"I think the greatest misconception was that I was fired for drinking. I received a phone call from Mark, Tom, and Rick (manager), one afternoon after a recent tour. They gave me an ultimatum to quit drinking and go into rehab. I didn't think I needed to go to rehab so I asked for the weekend to think about it, they agreed. I went out and got drunk. After that weekend I realized that I had a drinking habit that I needed to break, I told them I would go to rehab and they said they didn't trust me. So I asked if there was anything I could do to stay in the band and they said no. So I was never given a reason. Another misconception is that I am somehow upset or bitter about this. When they said they wouldn't trust me to quit drinking I realized that I was not in the company of friends. And I wouldn't have wanted to be in a band whom are not my friends."

After that there were some reports that Scott Raynor was shot dead in 2003, following a dispute with his new band Grumpy, but it turned to be fake as it became clear that he is alive and in good health. He said on his message board that he is alive, but the one who is shot is a homeless urchin from San Diego.

Jason: Nice. Now, for my own clarification.. did you leave the band? or were you asked to leave?

Scott: I was contacted over the phone and asked to quit drinking. I asked for the weekend to think about it, I came back and agreed. They said, "too bad," and I don't really know why.

    Jason: That sounds incredibly harsh.

Scott: Yep, it was pretty dastardly done.

Jason: I would agree. So did you ever get to meet with the band again and talk about it? -- or was it just.. *poof* over? That really seems just plain mean.

Scott: Well it was rude to do it over the phone so I went to one of their shows just to show my face.

Jason: Wow, what did they do when you went to the show?

Scott: Tom asked how I was and I think Mark was scared I was going to flip out. I just wanted to show my face, and that's all I did, and then I left.
