Scott La Rock
Scott Sterling (Born March 2 1962, died August 27, 1987), better known by stage name Scott La Rock, was the DJ for the hip hop group Boogie Down Productions. He met KRS One in 1986 at a homeless shelter where KRS was staying and Sterling was an attorney. In Sterling's spare time, he DJed at local functions. Together with MCs KRS One and D Nice, he formed the Boogie Down Productions crew. Their debut album, Criminal Minded was an instant hit and is considered a classic and masterpiece of the genre.

Much to the chagrin of the music world, La Rock was shot to death in 1987 while attempting to cool down a domestic dispute involving BDP colleague D Nice. Though it might have meant the end of BDP, the group continued without him. One result was KRS's transformation into a more thoughtful artist who continually spoke out against violence in the ghetto (cf. Stop the Violence on BDP's album By All Means Necessary), and still makes regular respectful reference to the deceased La Rock.
