Scientific meeting
In a scientific meeting several researchers meet to exchange and discuss new scientific results. A meeting is almost always restricted to specific topics, and together with scientific journals, provides the most important channels for exchange of information between laboratories.

The form is usually oral and/or with posters: In an oral presentation a speaker present his work for a large audience usually supported by slides (e.g., Microsoft Powerpoint presentations). Poster presentations are run parallel with many posters in the same room.

A large meeting will usually be called a conference, while a smaller is termed a workshop. They might be single track or multiple track, where the former has only one session at a time, while a multiple track meeting has several parallel sessions with speakers in separate rooms speaking at the same time.
