Schillinger System
The Schillinger System of musical composition is an extensive, proprietary method of creating music in any idiom, based on a mathematical process. It's primary areas include the theory of rhythm, theory of harmony, which is broken down in to diatonic (a scale) and extended to symmetric (equal sub-divisions of the octave). It further includes theory of melody, counterpoint, form and semantics (emotional meaning as in movie music).

Schillinger, a Russian, was a professor at the New School in NY City and taught such celebrated composers as George Gershwin and Glen Miller. His books were published after his death and his theory has grown to cult status, although it is still controversial in traditional circles. There are a limited number of Certified Schillinger Teachers of this system in the world.
